English Birth Preparation Course in Berlin-Pankow
This English-speaking birth preparation course in Berlin is designed for expectant couples who would like to prepare for birth, postpartum recovery, and early parenthood in a supportive and practical way.
Led by a certified midwife, the course offers comprehensive, evidence-based, and empowering information to help you feel confident and well prepared for labour, birth, and the first days with your baby. The course is especially suitable for internationals and expat families giving birth in Germany.
Partners are actively included throughout the course and will learn practical ways to support the birthing person during labour, birth, and the early postpartum period.
The course is highly interactive and includes many hands-on exercises. You will practice different birth positions, breathing and relaxation techniques, and learn concrete ways partners can offer physical and emotional support. There will also be practical exercises on diapering, breastfeeding positions, and newborn care.

Costs
The course fee for pregnant participants is fully covered by German statutory health insurance.
Partner participation costs €140. Many statutory health insurance providers reimburse these costs partially or in full.

About the instructor
Luisa Hahn graduated as a midwife from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin in 2022 and subsequently worked at Charité Campus Virchow-Klinikum. After her parental leave, she began working as a freelance midwife, supporting families in antenatal and postnatal care.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology. Her son was born at home in 2023.
She speaks, german, english and spanish.

When is the best time to take the course?
Most people attend between weeks 25 and 36 of pregnancy
This will not be my first baby, but my first in Germany. Is the course still suitable?
Yes — many parents join to better understand the German maternity care system and what to expect during birth and postpartum care in Germany.
I am not sure whether to attend with or without my partner. What would you recommend?
Both are possible. Many people appreciate attending together, as partners learn how to offer practical and emotional support during birth and the postpartum period.
What is the cancellation policy for the birth preparation course?
Cancellations up to 21 days before the start of the birth preparation course are free of charge. After that, the partner fee cannot be refunded.
I do not have German statutory health insurance. What are the course costs?
For privately insured participants and self-payers, the course fee is €22.80 per hour.
